July 2017 Meeting
The July GWAPA meeting was hosted by Rachel O’Leary at her home in Wolf, PA.
It was a joint meeting with the New Jersey Aquatic Gardeners Club. There were about 50 people in attendance with NJAGC out numbering GWAPA about 3 to 1. Those that made the long drive were treated to good food, good conversation and a look at Rachel’s amazing fish room and container/water garden. There was so much food. NJAGC paid for a whole pig and Rachel and her husband Chris spent the whole night before the meeting roasting it. They did a fantastic job. In addition there were 2 kinds of beans, 2 kinds of potato salad, corn, veggie trays, and plenty of liquid refreshments.
Rachel gave a talk, and answered questions, about her awesome water garden. She talked about selecting containers and setting them up as well as the plants she chose. Way to go on keeping native species, Rachel. Furthermore she spoke on breeding fish in containers, and the challenges, including predators and over wintering. Rachel has also been getting into carnivorous plants and spoke on keeping them in her water garden.
We had our regular auction with GWAPA members supplying most or all of the plants in the sale. Instead of the regular club split, we did a split with Rachel to help pay for all the food and drink she had bought. We would like to thank Ghazanfar Ghori, who, though he did not make the meeting, sent up a large number of stem plants and donated 100% of the proceeds to Rachel. Thanks GG.
