Redhead grass

Post by Sonny Disposition »

Has anyone ever kept/grown Potamogeton perfoliatus (Redhead grass) in their home aquarium? Apparently it's found in the Chesapeake Bay and environs.

You never know what you're going to find, or where you're going to find it. So keep looking.

I haven't kept this particular Potamogeton (there are tons of them natively), but I've kept several others. In general, many do very well. Some of them do, however, tend to die back in the winter. Most are good growers, hence their common name of pond weeds. The only downside is that although they look like stem plants, they grow from their roots via runners, and most cannot be trimmed and have new growth emerge. Therefore, it can be a challenge to construct a full stand of it. That said, it is possible, and with as many shapes, sizes, and textures of Potamogetons out there, I'd recommend you try some.

Uhm, I think I need "redhead grass". Just because.
It is not murder if you're killing snails.
