Would this plumber's putty work for sealing the CO2 connections?

Yes, Ive used it too.

Get the 1 oz. tube. It's easier to apply, and a 4 oz. tin is more than you could possibly use.

It's too late; I got the 4 oz. one. However, this enables me to offer small containers of it to fellow GWAPA members for free. I can deliver to the next meeting.
