Need a bit of help please.
Got the 40br(3x) last saturday and I am trying to design a rack for them.
Plan is to have 1 50br and 3 40br on a single stand (either approx 72" long for a 2x2 setup or approx 38" long and just absurdly tall.)
Anyone got any links or similar to help with that? I want to build the stand with enough space to allow T5 retro kits above the tanks and still be able to get into the tank without a lot of part removal.

Jeff,
Build a simple rack like these. Leave about 8" above the top of the tank to the bottom of the 2x4. Make it as high as you need. Easier to figure out how high you want the top tank to be and work down.

thanks for the help, I am more then likely going with the 72" rack instead so I dont have to hope that the metal stud will give some lateral support and also so I am not climbing around my ceiling to get in the top tank.
Bad part is that I am going to have to build it, disassemble it and then drive it to my condo and reassemble it. The rules in my condo only allow for construction M-F from 9-4.

Yes please, that will help a lot. I am trying to do this right and not wing it and hope for the best.DonkeyFish wrote:Do you need plans? I found a neat site online that you just punch in the diameters you want or tank sizes and it spits out very detailed and complete plans for a basic stand...and it's free. I"ll see if I can find the link again...pretty cool resource!
170 gallons+ would make a rather large mess.

I just finished another custom stand for the two 33g (free) cubes with a workspace in the middle and storage underneath. This is the last rack for the fish room. I have a pine 2"x4" rack with 6 breeders on it (stacked three high) and have experienced no problems. All racks were designed on scratch paper and built using nothing more than a table saw, crosscut saw and a drill. Actually, a very simple process once you get the hang of it and realize to put all weight on vertical uprights.
