Very nice pictures Mark! So, how do you get to this place? It looks beautiful, and I wouldn't mind trying to get there sometime before the weather gets cooler.

Washington, DC 20020

take BW parkway south and go 295 through D.C. there's a sign. Basically, if you don't see the sign, you get off 295, and go through some neighborhood. The Aquatic Garden is on Ancacostia Dr. open 7am to 4pm including Sat/Sun

EDIT going south 295, there is a sign, but no sign going north 295, so you're on your own figuring it out

I love Kenilworth Aq. Gardens - but have not been there in years now. Try to pick a not-too-muggy day, the lower the humidity the better for me. That place with mug can really clarify the meaning of "swamp".

Very nice pictures - the Victoria looks great.

Lily pons out your way can be pretty nice when everything is in boom as well. I was thinking about them on Saturday. They do guided tours as well if I recall.

Jim - Lilypons is an old stomping ground for us. When we were in Silver Spring I had a lily pond (bordered in part by non-hardy bananas of course). Even after moving out here, some of the local area kite folk did demos at some of their festival days for them (and as I had the biggest collection of Koi windsocks, guess who did sky laundry?). My wife's early music group also performed there for at least one festival most years. The father of the current head of the place, and at the time the CEO, was an early music fan, so had then in for his own pleasure. Keeping the strings, wooded wind instruments, and skin drums functional in the heat and humidity was a hoot - entirely too authentic.

BTW, Kris' photos of you working on the veggie filter are classic - absolutely noting like a Crinum root mass, and it does show well that the substrate was largely root, not gravel. I think the take-home lesson there is not to let them grow for more than 3 years... but your smile of accomplishment is almost worth the effort.

Mark--Very nice photos. Didn't GWAPA have a field trip there four or five years ago?
