need a bit of help with a bowfront top brace

Post by JMLenke »

Ok I was given a bowfront tank awhile ago that had an incandescent too close to the center brace and melted it. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix it without trying to buy a new top from the manufacturer (that IIRC will cost almost as much as a new tank)

Can try:

Drill two holes in the remainder of the existing brace.

Holes fit to nylon bolts/nuts combo.

Drill holes matching distance in a piece of plexiglass.

Bolt it up.

I was kind of thinking of doing that with marine grade epoxy as well. I just was wondering if that was a good idea or not.

The tank currently holds water with no issue but I would feel a little safer with the crossbrace reattached

Epoxy can let go and you won't see it... the bolts are as strong and you'll see if it stresses.

I replaced the brace in my 75 with a glass brace but I didn't have a curve to deal with when I bought the glass. I tried the epoxy route, it let go. How big is this tank?
