The speaker for the March meeting will be Ed Smith, Animal Keeper and
Biologist at the National Zoo’s Amazonia exhibit. His talk will be “Amazon
Ecology.” He will touch on some of the variety of features of the river systems including water types, habitat varieties, combinations of organisms effecting each other and much, much more. This will be a “must see” speaker for the year, especially for those people interested in the fish, plants and other organisms from the Amazon River system.
Most of Ed’s recent travels have been to Iquitos, Peru and the surrounding
areas, which lines up nicely with the Margarita Tours trip that several PVAS members have taken and will be taking later this summer. He was also kind enough to help us welcome the field trip to Amazonia for the ‘06 catfish convention.
