Well, I've decided that one bag of the Soilmaster is enough for my purposes. My major problem now, though, is that it's horribly cloudy!! Even with my large Rena canister filter running, it takes two days to clear up--and even then, it's not crystal clear. I've used half a bottle of Seachem Clarifer and it's still murky the next day. I'm NOT going to be happy if I have to go through all these hoops and waiting after every time I go in there and tinker with decorations and plants. I was not planning on spending another $100 on a diatom filter, but it looks like I may not have any other option. Any recommendations?
Oh, and for those considering using this stuff but have't yet--RINSE RINSE RINSE!
Soilmaster for substrate
Well, my water has seemed to clear for the most part, but not crystal clear like my other tanks. There's a film at the top that I have no idea how to get rid of, and that affects the quality of light. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get rid of it?
Spine, I would like to borrow your Diatom filter if it's okay.

My tank is finally looking pretty clear, but I attribute most of it to clearing up the green water. As far as the soilmaster goes, I added mine without rinsing it at all, and just was very careful about filling up the tank. It wasn't looking too bad right after filling it up. If you haven't already, make sure you clean out the sponse in your rena. When first setting up a tank, you sometimes want to do that daily as the particles really fill up the sponge fast. Also, just FYI, don't overdose on that Seachem Clarifier. I've read that many of these flocculants become less effective when you overdose what's recommended. Don't ask me why, but that's what I've read.

I would love to see your tank as well! Let me know if you still want to borrow a diatom filter, I moved to Springfield but I still frequent Landmark area as my wife works there. I stopby yesterday at Springfield lesco but they don't have it in stock & the guy said he couldn't order it till next year as its a year round kindda thing. What they have now is the one they use on a baseball field that suck-up water (he said it might drain my tank). oh well I guest there's always an advantages being female. :lol:bigstick120 wrote:Did your tank clear yet Suezahn?
