A few snow showers couldn’t stop GWAPA members from coming to Josh Wiegert’s house to hear Jen Williams talk about beginner aquascaping techniques! There were many new and returning faces, an exciting raffle for two donated items, and a bustling auction. Below are a few of Jen’s valuable tips:

1. Practice! Jen stressed the importance of trying new things, but one at a time. Work on one thing at a time, such as hardscape or plants, so you don’t get overwhelmed!
2. Plan! Decide how much time you want to dedicate to upkeep and maintenance, and plan accordingly. Maybe try using the Rule of 3s or the golden ratio? Maybe try mimicking nature? Get inspiration from pictures you find on the internet
3. Patience! Not everything will go according to plan, but don’t give up. Everyone is a beginner at one point, and everyone makes mistakes. Don’t get discouraged, eventually you will be successful.
