Our very interesting February 2017 meeting was held at Viktor Gyorffy\u2019s house.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Sean Murphy gave a presentation on his famous mineralized soil.\u00a0 Basically it is a way to make a substrate that is excellent for your plants, but does not encourage the growth of algae.\u00a0 You start with ordinary top soil, and then you remove the organic materials from it.\u00a0 You then add red potter\u2019s clay, and dolomite and potassium.\u00a0 If you would like more complete information on his process, I recommend Aaron Talbot\u2019s write-up at http:\/\/www.aquaticplantcentral.com\/forumapc\/library\/52554-how-mineralized-soil-substrate-aaron-talbot.html<\/a> , <\/strong>or this write-up by Sean himself: http:\/\/scapefu.com\/mineralized-soil\/<\/a> .<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>After Sean\u2019s presentation Kris Weinhold added a post script by briefly discussing different options for aquarium substrate. Considerations include the substrate\u2019s color, the granule size, its density, its nutritional value, and cost.<\/p>\n

After the presentations there was the usual auction.<\/p>\n

The club has a lot of wood and rocks which are available for purchase.\u00a0 Most of it is stored at Viktor\u2019s, so those who attended this meeting had an opportunity to examine it closely and get exactly what they wanted.\u00a0 Here are a few photos of the rocks and wood:<\/p>\n
