Does anyone have a GPS unit we can use in one of the vehciles? It might help for directions, plus I've heard that newer units even warn of road closures/traffic problems and provide alternative routes.

Also it looks like we have more vehicles volunteered than needed. I'm sure the Xterra and I know the Odyssey are more comfortable than Geroge's pickup (I think it is a Ford Ranger). We'll need to make a decision as we get closer to departure.

Work has cleared me to go. Anyone have a estimate on how much this trip will run.

I'm clear with my work and wife to go as well. Kevin, figure $50-$60 a night per room for a cheap hotel. Split that with someone, and that's $25-$30. Plus, a few bucks every day toward gas. And money for food. Over the course of the trip, that should add up to about $500-$600. Of course, drift wood purchases, and any other equipment to buy before leaving wouldn't be included. I'm sure you could do it cheaper if you brought a cooler with sandwiches or something like that for meals.

I am in for the trip but we will need to get a better handle on the numerous wildfires that will most likely still be burning in Florida and Georgia. Basically we may need to alter the areas where we can collect.

A few of the fires are less contained today than they were last week and that is a worriesome sign.

The fires are in the far north of the state, you guys are planning on going further south.

Another cost to factor in for the trip is the purchase of a fishing license. Last time we got the fishing licenses at Walmart.

I hope the fires stay to the north of the state.

A non-resident freshwater 7-Day fishing license is $16.50. If you think you will be sampling in salt marshes you'll need a seperate saltwater license, 3-Day is $6.50 and a 7-Day is $16.50.

You have to buy non-resident licenses in person.
