Here's a question Jim... do you know for sure that the driftwood will *not* float? If you detatch it from the slate and soak it in a bucket for a few days...

DSM is, as Jim said, Dry Start Method. I think Tom Barr came up with the term DSM. It's mostly used for low height foreground carpeting plants like hc and hair grass. Because these plants grow 8x faster (according to Diana Walstad), it becomes a viable way for getting them established before introducing water.chris_todd wrote:What's DSM stand for?

I'm trying my own experiment on this. I started HC a couple of weeks ago and introduced a few strands of UT a couple of weeks ago--it's all growing insanely well and almost ready for filling--I'm keeping a diary under this category on my blog.
