gutting and retrofitting an eclipse 1 hood

Post by JMLenke »

Ok so raided my fathers and left the bowfront in the attic until I have a stand and filter for it but I grabbed my ex fiancee's old eclipse 1 on an 15h (IIRC that is the size, Ill measure it to make sure). Obviously the single 18" T8 wont work for anything but seeing into the tank but does anyone know of any retrofits for these hoods?

Looking on:
Hellolights, I could do a 1x96w fixture, but I think that would be SERIOUS overkill (thats about 6w per gallon)
Catalina Aquarium gives me the option of 2x36w which is giving me almost 5w per gallon.
BUT
Both are oversized and without serious modifications to the existing hood neither would work.

I would like to try to keep the existing look of the hood in place but I could care less about the crappy filtration, and even crappier lighting that is currently in it.

When you post the inside dimensions of the hood, we may be able to make a suggestion. One thing for certain, you will want to install a fan.

If you've got bait, I've got wasabi!

I wish I could be like Mr. Sarcastic when I grow up! ;)
