Piranhas in a Planted tank?

Post by TropicalCreations »

From my dives in Peru and seeing my Piranhas in my aquarium, I have learned them to be very shy actually and love to school in large groups in shaded areas or heavily planted areas. Has anyone ever placed them in a planted aquarium?

Years ago when my plants were plastic (yes I said it), the problem is they are very strong swimmers and can get agitated easily so I ended up removing the plants because they were floating at the end of the day, sometimes I would come in from work and all the gravel would be on one end on the tank. You can put your hands in the tank or a fish their size or larger and nothing will happen but they are very possessive and the tank is theirs and they may rearrange it to let you know. I kept them several times and if you want to keep 5, buy 10 because they will cull out any weak members early on or if you miss a feeding etc., back then the diet was beef heart or live goldfish, I was up to 100 live gold fish a week when I got rid of them.
Sincerely,
Tim
