New fish...Oryzias woworae

Post by scientist0724 »

So I had to buy them...

I got new fish today. The are a new species called ricefish, but to me, they look like a small rainbow. They come from Sulawesi. They are the size of a Celebes. The males have a pretty blue sheen to them and they have orangey-red pectoral fins, where the females lack these traits.

I have two pairs, so I hope to be breeding them soon.

Enjoy!

Medaka! I haven't seen them since I was a kid. A Japanese family in town had them when I lived in Alaska. As I recall, they were very popular in Japan, much like crystal red shrimp and nishikigoi.

I assume this is another Petsmart buy?

Cheers.

Nope. These are not available anywherer I've been. I bought them at SuperPetz. The only other place I found them was on Aquabid at $15 a pair. The auction is not yet done. Plus $15 for shipping.

These are pretty new on the market and not yet readily available.

Viktor,

Have you had success breeding these fish? They are so pretty, aren't they?

Actually Brian, I saw them there last week, but wasn't sure if I wanted them since I knew nothing about them. I saw them on Aquabid, and decided that if I saw them again at SuperPetz I'd get them. They were still there, so I got them.

I bought woworae eggs a couple months ago off of AB. I have about 10 younsters growing out now. Still no color on them yet. They sound like prolific breeders though!
