Red Moss - Caloglossa cf. beccarii

Post by krisw »

Has anyone kept this plant/algae before? I should be getting some soon from a guy on TPT, as I heard it can outcompete BBA, which is my #1 algae problem in my tanks. I'm still trying to decide if I like the look of it or not, but it's something new. ;-)

I'd have to see it in person I think. The looks remind me of the color of dying BBA.

I don't know about you, but that's a very pleasing color when I see it in my tanks!

I have seen it for sale online and read a little about it. Some people say it's not easy to keep it alive maybe because it is not fully aquatic. But that's just what some people say.

Very much like the non-aquatic sedge Carex comans bronze, keeping the bronze coloration might be tricky but having a dead looking plant growing in your tank would be fun to try. Maybe some of those people just though it was dead.

According to a store in Spain that sells this, it is an algae that grows like a moss. If this is true, you could flood the GWAPA market in the spring.

If that's true, he could flood the GWAPA market in February.
