name of the plant ?

Post by Nikhilsk99 »

I was out on a weekend trip and I picked this plant at one of the North Jersey lake.
The plant you see in the photo with hair like leaf's, could this be MYRIOPHYLLUM TUBERCULATUM?

Definitely some kind of Myriophyllum, but I couldn't say which species. My guess would be that it's probably one of the Myriophyllums that is known to have invaded many North American lakes. I think Eurasian milfoil (M. spicata??) is just about everywhere.

Whatever it is, it is pretty. I like stem plants with those fine, feathery leaves.

Hi Nikhil,

That is almost certainly Myriophyllum spicatum, Eurasian Milfoil, a heavily invasive aquatic weed, which is banned in many states. (Without knowing where you are, I can't tell you if it's controlled in your state. It is probably illegal, though.

It's a pretty plant -- that's the reason why it's over here! Just ... don't let it get into the local waters, okay? :)

Thanks for a quick reply. I stay in New Jersey.
I just got this plant 4 days back. Let me see how it grows. If it grows like a weed in my tank I would trash it.
