anyone ever made a carpet out of marimo balls?

Post by PadreJP »

Has anyone here ever tried flattening out one or two marimo balls (Cladophora aegagropila) and attaching them to a rock or driftwood to form a nice lush, slow-growing carpet? I've seen one picture of a tank where someone did this and it looked quite stunning. However, given I am using a low-light setup without CO2, I wonder whether it would work for me.

P.S. -- Here's a link to the picture I saw. It's the log covered in green front & center.

Wow, that is really beautiful. I don't know why you couldn't try it. The site says that it's a rather low-tech set up. Where can one find the Marimo Balls????

IIRC Marimo balls are usually Clado, if you want to see a carpet of Clado, I can replant/relight the 20g and give it a few months.

Marimo balls a different species of clado from the one that usually causes us great heartburn.

Padre, you should try HC, I have grown it under a desk lamp without CO2.
