I didn't know they did this. A search on APC shows that I am about the only one that didn't know this, but that's OK. I think it's cool. Someone posted that the little stalks may form tiny plantlets to cut off and plant. That would be cool.

HA its cool like that!! But those get huge. Mine has been doing this for months, I am still waiting for the thing to split of form plants on the ends! Its really ugly right now and I may toss it.

I think they are cool, but you're right, if they get really big, they might get tossed. If they would make baby plants, it would be good. These plants go for $$$ on Aquabid.

Is the tank they are in high light? I guess one way to avoid the seeding is lower light.

I have 110 watts on a 20 high, so I'd say it's high light. I can't grow in low light... well... anything except algae.

I think your's is the pics I saw on APC. I thought that looked really cool. Kind of alien-esque.

Again, I think it looks really neat, but I'll take your word for it that the bigger it gets, the uglier it gets. The spikes on mine stopped growing a little. It was overshadowed by some other plants. If they start going nuts again, I'll take another pic.

I wonder what can be done to induce them to make baby plantlets? Probably nothing like was said in the post on APC.

Not sure but if you find any new info please share. I was thinking of pulling the seeds and trying to grow them emersed

Maybe if the seed pods reached the surface of the water, they would bust open with seeds, but since we have them in 18" or more aquariums, they are never able. I wonder how deep they grow in nature.

Take it out and divide it up with a sharp razor knife. It should be fairly apparent where the plant can be divided. Some divisions will die off, but you'll likely get more than what you started with and in the process you can cut off the seed pods.
