I know this seems like a dumb question, but I've never really had to deal with it before...

How do you thin out Java Fern? I really don't want to pull it off the driftwood and I get the distinct impressing that clipping the leaves will just send it into "must make more baby plantlets" mode.

I've always just yanked the stuff off and put a little bit back in it's place, but that won't work in my current tank (for asthetic reasons, not technical ones). So how do I thin out the three monster ferns I have taking over my tank?

Don't know if it matters, but two are regular Java, one is narrow leaf.<edited><editID>Jonathan Kalmes</editID><editDate>38176.8574884259</editDate></edited>

The way I do it so clip off some of the larger
older leaves at the base and also cut off the leading
edges of the rhizome about 3-4" back.
