Riverweed (Podostemaceae), Macarenia clavigera

This plant's red/pink color looks almost unreal. Wonder why we don't see it in the hobby? Or at the very least in GWAPA...

Beautiful plant. It looks similar to Rotala macrandra in that photo. The statement on the belowwater website probably explains why we don't have it.

Wow, I wonder if Macarenia clavigera would stay that red in our tanks, out of the full sun? Very cool looking river!

Yeah, I think the FARC would have something to say about a bunch of gringos stomping around their front yard "looking for aquatic plants".

It's a great looking plant though. I think I might just wander down the hall this morning and ask a friend of mine in Foreign Ag. Service if anyone is currently stationed in Colombia.

Cheers.

Maybe you can get there! (You, not me) Translation:
"The red color comes from the macrophyte Macarenia clavigera. Colombian travel agencies organize trips to a nearby Cano Cristales town of La Macarena. Since the river does not lead the way, you need to get there on horseback."
