One of my friends in California recently set this tank up. Or, rather, had this tank set up by someone. I guessed Tom Barr and I was right. Those discus are very large, by the way. I emailed Tom and I think he said it was 800 gallons. So often people "in this price bracket" end up with gaudy saltwater tanks so it's nice to see something different. Tom told them, by the way, that a planted tank would cost them a lot more than this did. And you can guess what this cost.

But it needs plants! At least some anubias and java ferns.

Or java moss or bucephalandra.
I presume these discus swim in conditioned tap water (not r/o). What filtration system is being used?
Interesting, the salt water alternative I tend to see are African Rift Lake cichlid tanks, not discus.

Conditioned tap water. For once I was more interested in the fish than the equipment so I didn't get under the hood. I really have never seen discus look so good--and I gather their natural environment is not actually full of plants.
