What is this?

Post by John G »

My 7 gal has so far resisted all of my efforts to turn it into a nice Dutch aquarium. The latest problem is this stringy little stuff, which winds around my other plants, making it very difficult to remove.

Can someone tell me what it is? Even better, can you tell me how to get rid of it?

Oh yeah... getting rid of it.... you get your tweezers and pull it out one strand at a time.

Pull it out every day. That is the only way to get rid of it. Run a good filter while pulling it out so small pieces are gathered up too. Be vigilant for a month and you should win the battle.

If you have mosses growing in this tank, you will have to be uber vigilant, even willing to throw some of the moss out to get rid of this stuff. It loves to intertwine with moss.

Small bits of this demon weed can stick to the glass just above the waterline and under the lip of your HOB filters. Be sure and check there too.

OK, thanks for the information. It looks like I have two choices. First,
Pull it out every day and run filters, all the while checking the glass for
for tiny bits stuck above the water line. Continue this for several weeks.
Alternatively, instead of saying my Dutch has four types of plants, say it
has five, then open another beer and watch TV. Which to do, which to do....
