Re: Purigen refresh?
My pet peeve with it is that it is so incredibly fine. I can't find a mesh bag to put it into that'll hold it, and for service tanks, I can't use nylons.
I always have it leak out when I use it. I wish they'd make the particles a little bigger. . . I know, not as efficient, but, still....

Re: February Meeting
H. sp. "Tiger" is being touted as a separate species from H. polysperma. It has a slightly different growth form, and the tiger veination. See: http://www.aquaticplantenthusiasts.com/plants/3532-hygro-tiger-federal-noxious-weed.html The two different plants do look pretty similar to me, bu...

Re: February Meeting
Actually, Halak: Hygro. sp. "Tiger" is not listed as an invasive species, and there is (currently) no Maryland law regulating H. polysperma. So, provided no one crosses a state line with it, there's no reason to not auction it -- in Maryland. :) That's set to change sometime in the next 18...

Re: Low light? Really?
I'm glad to see the part about reflectors on the bottom. I've obtained a couple of the Coralife T5 systems over the years, and it is amazing. The entire bulb is basically encased in black plastic, except the very bottom of it. You lose more than 75% of the light generated that way, simply because th...

Re: Hooking Up My CO2 Unit
I don't think this is a secondary infection from the ich, there was a pretty good lag period between the two.

Re: Hooking Up My CO2 Unit
Hey Kris, I am not having a cyanobacterial infection. I'm having some sort of fish disease: something I haven't encountered before. The fish all look like they've been eating sandpaper: their lips are white, peeling, and pitted. On some, it's spread back toward the eyes and gills. Some fish show no ...

Re: Hooking Up My CO2 Unit
Yes! Doug and Cristy came over after the CCA meeting on Saturday and helped me hook it up. It wasn't nearly as bad as I was afraid it would be. I have to replace my airline tubing with the appropriate stuff and I need a cheque valve able to handle the pressure, but ... other than that, I'm good to g...
