Re: So... My friend algae, you may know him

It's been nearly a month and the string algae isn't gone, less but not gone. Very little GSA on the glass, literally one or two spots, but I get enough hair algae on the glass to clean every couple of days. I've raised the lights to 32" from the substrate. The lights are on an 8 hour photo peri...

Re: Plant Deficiency Chart

This is really helpful for us nubs :)

As I'm tweaking with my ferts I have a better idea of what to look for.

I'd like to bring out the red in the Ludwigia Red, and Rotala. From what I understand, the factors are iron, light.
Is there anything else that brings out that color?

Re: Powerhead/Pump recommendations for flow

Well, it works. Two for one - what little surface film disappeared and increase surface agitation. It's not too strong - I think the 425 would be too much for a planted tank that's 36" If this were 48" the 425 would be a better choice. I've parked it at the right in back facing up and it h...

Re: I have a mystery Mr. Amano

Yep, that is an Amano. Usually Amanos are tough little buggers. Looks like you have some of the same terrible algae that I had. After dosing with Excel and a three day blackout it was pretty much gone. I also put 12 Amanos in the tank (11g). Perhaps you should try a blackout and Excel, then wait a ...

Re: I have a mystery Mr. Amano

My intention was to have amano shrimp deforesting algae, not a shrimp tank - unless I decide on a crazy expensive shrimp. I found an amano in the tank today! I think it's an amano. along side a cherry. So some survived... IMG_3043.JPG Now I'm at a total loss as to why I lost that many initially. Cou...

Re: I have a mystery Mr. Amano

hmmm.... The cherries are still alive and kicking. I saw one yesterday munching on a leaf... Based on your collective experience: What are amanos more sensitive to than cherries. From what people tell me they are both cockroaches, haha... Salt in the water? I know amanos breed in brakish water? I do...

Re: I have a mystery Mr. Amano

Well, I may have found out what's going on: predation? The cherries survived 24 hours being drop acclimated to both QT and the display tank. Then they just started dissappearing in the main. I netted the QT gang and dropped them into the main and watched. This morning there were two on leaves. I ano...
