Re: So... My friend algae, you may know him

Thanks Julie! The algae seems to be staying away. On a complete aside my tiger lotuses melted. I wonder if that's a side effect of the blackout. My little tiger lotus melted too... Sorry to hear that :( Did it die for good? I trimmed the larger ones down and they still have a few leaves. I al...

Re: So... My friend algae, you may know him

Thanks for the encouragement and advice :) There was a little bba and it's all turned light grey and falling off. The string algae is back in a few spots but it melts when I use a tooth brush. I think starting the CO2 2 hours before the lights come on may make a difference as the drop checker is a l...

I have two 100ml bags of purigen in the filter since the second week. I ran carbon initially then switched over. I will service the filter near the end of the week and check on them.

Edit: purigen since the second week of setup

Re: So... My friend algae, you may know him

unveiling... The algae is mostly gone. There is still a few patches of bba algae, and hair/string algae. It melts on the toothbrush though. Plants actually look good for the most part. Fed the fish. Scrubbed the wood. Did a 50% W/C. added ferts, 10ml excel. I'm going to have the CO2 come on an hour ...

So... My friend algae, you may know him

Yes, the green hair is gone on most of the plants. I used a toothbrush to get some of the thread algae and it's still there, but a lot less and it kinda melted on the brush.

Re: So... My friend algae, you may know him

I couldn't cover the entire tank so I draped bags from the light to shield it from secondary light.. I've been peeking, testing the water, feeding them a little, and adding excel 10ml per day to kill the stuff off. Today is the third day. I will be taking off the covers and doing a w/c tomorrow. Wou...

Re: So... My friend algae, you may know him

Shahriar, a 3-day blackout is just like shipping plants from California to here, which happens all the time on the forums. The plants arrive, might look a little weary, but bounce right back. Yup, what he said. How is your CO2 distributed? Water changes, water changes and more water changes. Unfort...

Re: So... My friend algae, you may know him

When I had an algae problem, I did a three day total black out (I covered the tank with a black trash bag) with daily doses of Excel and daily water changes. When I removed the bag, I was thrilled to see the algae gone. Also, I only run my lights for 6-7 hrs a day. You may want to consider cutting ...
