I used to run computer fans clipped to the side of the tank to blow across the water surface for the evaporative cooling mentioned above. And fully second getting another thermometer to check. I still love my low-iron tanks, even with scratches. The sparkling clarity rivals new acrylic any day. And at least it’s harder to scratch than acrylic

I learned the hard way how soft low-iron glass is and would love to hear if anyone has a secret also. In my travels I’ve yet to find something.

If you’re dosing an all-in-one fertilizer it’s going to be considerably more challenging, since you can’t modify the individual components. “Competition color” (as I call it) are largely achieved by limiting nitrogen.
