Re: Glass cap for tank?
You guys have seen my half-ten gallon that sits on top of my terrarium? Building something like that wouldn't be too terribly difficult. You would start by building a frame box that would sit over the tank out of 1" by 1", with a hinged "door" on the front (or the top). Then mou...

Re: Glass cap for tank?
One of those cold frame diy's using old windows would be fantastic, if that's what you're thinking. It should look very cool. You need an interesting way to frame it to open - a window that size would be unique. Yeah, it would look really cool, if I can find stuff to do it with. Of course, I'm not ...

Re: Glass cap for tank?
The glass box idea is a neat one. I'd think you could build one out of glass or acrylic and put it together with silicon. I imagine the glass would wear better long term, but would be more expensive. Yeah, I think glass will be more durable, assuming I don't break it. I was actually looking up some...

Glass cap for tank?
My husband has recently undertaken a 60*18*20H paludarium. Finding lighting was a little difficult, and he chose the 48" Current Satellite Pro. It seems he built his platform a little high and the light is VERY close to the land mass (photo attached). The tank is an old metaframe, so there's no...

Re: Substrate Question
Hi Becca, http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=28435 Dr Foster and Smith estimates 2.4 - 2.6 liters per 5 lbs of FlorinVolcanit substrate. Their substrate formula: "[(Aquarium Length x Width x Desired Substrate Depth) in inches] ÷ 60 = approximate Liters FlorinVolcanit...

Substrate Question
I need to get a 3-4" substrate bed in an old metaframe - external base dimensions are 60*18, internal are probably about 58*16. I'd like to use, primarily, the Brightwell Aquatics substrate, which complicates calculations of just how much I'll need. For instance, the 15 lb bag I got for a 15 ga...

Re: Aquarium "Life Hacks"
I found that using black sign vinyl worked well. No painting, no smell. Available at any sign shop. Did it in my family room with the help of my wife as a big piece of paper was difficult to handle by my self. The two of us did it in 15 minutes or so. Jim I use Gila window film in black. I've also ...
