Re: Help me make some wise filtration and substrate decision
I use a layered substrate the bottom of which is MTS and is organically rich. Did you make it yourself? I read about that process some time ago. It sounds time-consuming. To keep the substrate "muddiness" out of the water column I use a cap of Flourite Black Sand....FBS does a great job o...

Thanks, Halak, I'm debating between Fluval and Renas.halak wrote:I have both Renas and Eheims, and the Renas are much easier to clean and I have been very happy with them.

Re: Help me make some wise filtration and substrate decision
As to Fluorite and sharp edges -- what?! Fluorite is actually quite soft, and is not likely to hurt bottom feeders. Over time, it breaks down into clay. My big qualm with it is that it will make your tank SUPER muddy and dirty until it settles, and every time you disturb it. The initial time can ta...

I am slowly working towards a 75 gallon fw planted tank. I got the stand, tank, and glass canopy. I'll be using my old T5 light fixtures, either 2 or 4 bulbs, not decided on bright or low light plants. I have CO2 equipment but not sure about using it. Now, I'm trying to make some decisions about a f...

Re: planning aquarium makeover, larger tank, etc.
Thanks, 150EH, Looks like no rimless for me. Oh well, that's OK. :D Thanks for offering to advise me on the cabinet. It's still a bit early, but when i'm at a point where I'm ready to seriously plan it, I'll be in touch. It may be a few months. Thanks for the comments about gravel. I've used it for ...

planning aquarium makeover, larger tank, etc.
Hi GWAPA'ers, i'm moving later this year, and thought i'd use it as an opportunity to upgrade my old 40g-long fw planted tank (ok, i use the term 'planted' loosely, it's a jungle of a mess but the fish are happy and breeding quite enthusiastically.) Wish list: - 48" long so i can keep using my ...

found a source for excellent petrified wood
If anyone's interested in getting some unique petrified wood, check out this site: http://www.minersgallery.com/index.php?productID=1777 I bought some other fossils from the owner, Richard Mueller, and was very impressed by the excellent customer service. He goes out of his way to get the best speci...

Re: tank recommendations?
Well, I've pretty much given up looking for a rimless 40g long (48" long) -- can't find any online. Glasscages.com will make them, but i'm not thrilled by the reviews of that company. I guess I'll have to get a standard tank from Exotic Aquatics or Aquarium Depot. Anyone know about the Aqueon C...

tank recommendations?
I'm planning to replace my old 40g glass Perfecto when i move. It's worked fine but I'm concerned about seal integrity.
Does anyone have comments about the brands that are available? Which ones are the best quality? Are there any local stores that sell the rimless variety?
Thanks,
shireen
