Re: Guess the Plant

Hey Kris can I beg a bulb next time you divide yours? I contrived to kill mine when I treated it with a systemic for thrips. Apparently, putting it in a bucket of systemic and sealing it in a dry cleaning bag of a week was too much for it. I'm thinking about ordering a Crinum asiaticum which is supp...

Re: Dosing traces in MTS tanks

I don't use any micros in my mineralised tank except iron unless I notice any real deficiencies; maybe 2-3 times a year with Flourish. However, it is capped with Fluorite and I'm on well water, so I figure the water and feeding is providing the micros and the CEC of the substrate is binding them. C...

Re: Dosing traces in MTS tanks

The tank right now is pretty sparcely planted with Anubias barteri 'nana', Crypt. x willisi 'lucens', Rotala sp. 'Bangladesh', Hygrophila sp. 'Bold', and Barclaya longifolia. The stems are a little thin and pale right now due to previous low light and sporadic DIY CO2.

Cheers.

Re: Shrimp populations?

No question you'd have more in a bigger tank.

Years ago I started with a dozen cherries in my 110. Within 2 years I had so many that when I decided to sell or swap for fresh genes, I'd just scoop a couple of nets full without even thinking about counting them out.

Cheers.

Re: Julie's Kokedamas

Marlene's wanted to try a succulent wreath for years. She love succulents and we've been toying with buying an old stone watering trough or making a hypertufa trough for the patio for her succulent garden. I saw some real stunners and would love to bring back a nice lichen covered one from the UK, b...

I didn't know you did this? Too bad yours didn't work out.

Love the bird bath by the way. Marlene is hovering over my shoulder and raving about what an awesome plant stand that would make.

Cheers.

Re: My first Kokedama

Kevin; I guess you could consider it an emersed Wabi-Kusa. Traditionally they use terrestrials like Japanese Maple seedlings, ferns, grasses and such, but I decided to try emersed aquatics just to see how it would work. It looked really good until we went on holiday for a couple of weeks and it drie...
