Gratiola viscidula is threatened in our area, but native to Maryland/Virginia. There are places in Maryland you can collect Proserpinaca if you want to try the local version. It's a beautiful aquarium plant.

Viktor is right -- the best is to have substrate that will keep the ferts (regardless of miracle grow or others) in the substrate. So, large gravel with lots of water flow through the substrate would not be ideal, but Flourite Black, Sand, Aquasoil, etc. should be fine.

Definitely don't mix your phosphate into your iron or traces. In general, you can get down to two solutions, one for macros and one for micros. In terms of removing tediousness, I found using measured pump bottles very helpful. They typically deliver 1-2ml of solution per pump depending on the bottl...

I've never used powder for carpets. Maybe the smallest Eleocharis might like it, but otherwise just use the regular stuff. If you really need fine grain, you can mix in inert sand.
