Why buy when you can DIY?

DIY moss wall.

Planning to have a moss wall in my Discus tank (85F). Should I use a lighting diffuser or a knitting canvas to mount it?
Any place in DC area where I can find cheap Christmas/Java moss?

Light diffuser, aka eggcrate, probably has too big and deep holes. The knitting canvas would be better, or coco fiber, or vinyl window screen. Anyone have more ideas?

I used plastic knitting mesh from Michaels a few years ago and it worked. I would recommend scuffing it up a bit for a better surface for the moss to attach. Also, remember, unless you cover the vast majority, it will take quite a while for it to look full.

Plastic canvas. You are welcome to come look at mine after the the meeting at Viktor's, I'm only 10 minutes away (7 if you drive like Viktor). I re-did my original design maybe 10 months ago and found ways to improve on it that helped keep the canvas from collapsing while allowing me to better seat the moss when I plant it.
