new fish - Vietnamese White Cloud

Post by fredyk »

MY other new fish acquisition is a Vietnamese White Cloud. I always liked white clouds, and so I have two new colonies of white clouds (Vietnamese and Chinese), but neither are breeding yet.

OTH, my ancistrus and apistos breed regularly.

Thanks for reading

Pretty fish! Ghazanfar and I was drooling over some other type of white cloud down in Houston, that had longer feathery fins, but similar color to yours. Where did you find these guys? Might be exactly what I want for my pond this summer, to bring inside in the fall.

These were at the Spring auction. A few bags sold.

I remember when white clouds were as common as danios and mollies....so weird how things cycle because now these guys are not common at all.

I remember those guys in Houston - they had bright yellow in them, had never seen anything like it!

The Vietamese ones are pretty too.

Anyone know if these are actual locality variants, r if there is some sort of selective breeding thing going on?

If I remember correctly from the PFK articles, they are supposed to be different but closely related species aren't they? I know there are long finned, albino, and long finned albino variants I believe of the original species (I'm guessing the Chinese was the original white cloud in the hobby?) but I'm not totally sure... last time I was at scales the long finneds I saw had the same markings as pictured. I've not seen the two species side by side to make a comparison so I'm not really sure which is which?

Chinese White Cloud is Tanichthys albonubes.
Vietnamese White Cloud is Tanichthys micagemmae.
