HELP! Fish wasting!
Re: HELP! Fish wasting!
BTW, if you really, really want to do this right, for any dewormer, move the fish to separate treatment tank for 48 hours. This tank should either have a bare bottom that you can easily remove any waste / worms from, or a layer of marbles to prevent the fish from reinfecting themselves.

Re: HELP! Fish wasting!
I'll go dig out my 10g down stairs and do the goat thing.
Catching this many fish however won't be easy.
thanks

OK, got the goat goo.
I'd prefer not to have to vacuum. Would the marbles be sufficient?
thanks!

Re: HELP! Fish wasting!
Should I leave the fish in the hospital tank for four weeks? Confused...
Also the 90g which is my only tank is heavily planted. There's less than 10% visible bottom. What is the gestation time for the eggs? If they hatch with no host will that do them in? Will they hatch without a host?
There still will be snails and shrimp in the 90g. What about those?

Hey Jim,
I've never used the dewormer with shrimp or snails, but I imagine it would not be friendly to them.
Keep the fish in the hospital tank for about 48 hours. They'll evacuate any worms within about 12 hours or so, but it takes time for them to absorb the dewormer into their system. So, yes, using a treatment tank is kind of tedious -- you're catching the fish, keeping them there for two days, and then moving them back for a week only to do it again, and again, and again.
Without a host, the worms will quickly die.

Re: HELP! Fish wasting!
Turns out kids don't play with marbles anymore...at least according to Walmart. Wife/daughter giggled at my naiveté and suggested Jo-anns or Michael's flower arranging departments.
Tomorrow begins the fun...
