Non-aquatic plant ID?

Post by Cristy Keister »

This weed showed up last fall, survived the winter without dying back and is now growing fast.

I have tried a few plant ID websites, but can't find it. The USDA site is not working, unfortunately.
The base of the stem is deep red.

Looks like something from Euphorbiaceae. I will poke around a bit. Not so sure it's a native plant.

It was probably either in the bird seed mix, or was dropped by a bird.

Can you repost this in a public area? I want to call in some help but will need a link that can be accessed by someone who isn't a member.

I'm told that it's Euphorbia lathyris.

That's not it. The leaves on this plant are opposite pairs, they are wider, and there is no flower other than what I show in the photo.
