GWAPA Workshop in Ashburn, VA July 31st.

Post by Aaron »

Details can be found here: http://www.gwapa.org/workshops/finsfeathers.html

The more GWAPA members the merrier. At the last workshop we asked that all present members assist with answering questions that any attendees might have and I think things went quite well.

That sounds like fun - the last was a bit crowded, but that is good thing I suppose, a hint of success.

Ghazanfar will have to speak to the size of the store since I've never been there myself. I do know they are closing early and having the workshop after hours.

It may be a tight squeeze though they are planning to move some product
shelves to the side of the store to make room in the middle for chairs.
I think about 25 people should be able to fit ok. More than that and it may start
getting a little tight in there.

Do we want to make some flyers to keep at the store? Maybe a signup list
there to guage interest?

Flyers would be good. I would think that keeping track of the number of flyers taken would be an indicator of interest. A signup list might be too commital for some people.

Well - the workshop was a success!
We had about 16 folks show up, add 4-5 more if you count GWAPA members.
Aaron delivered an outstanding presentation, we got a lot of folks interested
and gave them some good into. Got two instant GWAPA members out of
it and one addtional who's promised to sign up. Some others may show
up to a future meeting and then decide to join.

I'm proud to say, much to the dismay of Sean Murphy, that Pearlweed stock has gone up!

Sean (store owners son / store manager) had to hack it out of his show tank
to sell to the folks asking for it.

Overall - good fun - and more importantly, hopfully we've encouraged new
folks to the planted aquaria hobby.

Yes, I think good fun was had by all. The shop owners of Fins and Feathers were very nice people and really seemed to enjoy having us there.

We're hoping to setup more workshops in the future so if anyone can think of any shops that might be interested please let us know.

Make sure to check out Ghazanfar's great looking tank!

Since I wasn't there, if I got any of the details wrong, just let me know, and I'll update the page.

btw... Credit Andy for taking the great pictures! I had more than enough to choose from to put together this page. Thanks Andy!

Nice pictures and a good summary covering the workshop for those
who couldn't make it. We should do more of these.

Andrew - President of PVAS, who's opening up a new store in MD,
already wants to have one at his store later this year.
