August Meeting

Post by DelawareJim »

Robert;

Planning on coming to the August meeting and that reminded me. Will you be thinning your Crinum filter any time before it gets too cold outside?

Cheers.

Jim: Thinning the Crinum filter is second only to re-homing the dwarf Rainbows at the top of next week's chore list, so it is highly likely that there will be orphans looking for a good home. They have been seriously over-crowded for too long.

On a related (if not tank) issue, anyone who wants Aloe vera plants, please speak up at the meeting - the two urns of that plant (family heirloom) require major trimming before they come back in this fall, so any not wanted will be composted. Remarkably easy house plant in good light, can deal with very low light in winter if summered outdoors and built up to full sun. One of the urns even has a bloom spike (somewhat unusual for this plant in home conditions), not showy, but interesting. Let me in know your response if anyone wants cutting(s) and I will cut them mid-week so they can be well callused for potting over the weekend. Fresh cuttings need ~ 3 days to callus (helps avoid rot). Then after potting should be held another ~3 days before first watering for the same reason.

On the meeting - it is time get a tally on attendees, and as as your thread is nicely titled, I'll hijack - How many folks are planning on showing up?

I plan to be there, and may be in the market for dwarf rainbows, drop me a pm on them Robert. :)

EDIT: I do believe I'll have a guest and prospective new member with me, young lady named Lauren.

Also invited cleekdafish from Plantedtank, not sure if he's coming or not. (forgot his real name)

Add another question to the list - anybody else like meatless stuffed grape leaves (dolmas)? Herself has volunteered if there is any interest.
