Also, I saw this plant in one of the display tanks in the National Zoo's Amazonia exhibit. Can anyone ID it?

Here's a flower from my zephyranthes. Fun to get these coming out of my tank.

Re: SunSun HW-703B
How long do you use the pouches before you recharge? Or you just do it whenever you see that they are discoloring?

Re: SunSun HW-703B
Also, Seachem Purigen is fantastic. I have a whole collection of Purigen bags that I rotate in and out of my filters, recharging them with common bleach. They tend to take 2-3 recharges before I toss them. Kris, I tried Purigen once but couldn't figure out how best to use it. Do you just toss a bag...

Re: What substrate for water lilies?
Some folks use kitty litter. Interesting. The Lilypons guys just gave me clay--the same clay that lines their ponds. Because it's silty and messy if you disturb it, they told me to cap the pots with pea gravel. It has worked fine for the last couple of years but I'd love to be able to switch to a l...

Re: Fluval 406 sucks.....air
Have you tried running the thing in a bucket to isolate your problem? That is, remove the filter from the tank, put the intake and outflow hardware into a 5 gallon bucket, turn it on, and then dunk various parts of the works into the bucket to see when you kill off the problem. Depending on where yo...

What substrate for water lilies?
This is for my outdoor pond. I plant the lilies in smallish plastic tubs; the guys at lilypons gave me a bag of thick clay that I used for my first planting a few years ago but I'm way overdue for a divide-and-replant. I've seen the API pond media but it just looks like Turface...which is to say ine...

Re: Bubble counter setting
When everything is going right in my tank, it can eat 5 bps no problem - 55gallon tank. I got tired of little bubble counters and just rebuilt my pvc reactor with an 8" hunk of clear pvc in it. Now I count the bubbles by turning on the work light under my tank and just looking at it. It's a lot...

Re: Coarse gravel over aquasoil?
I'm not real familiar with flourite. I thought it was pretty similar to Aquasoil in appearance--am I wrong about that?

Coarse gravel over aquasoil?
Hi all, I'm trying to set up a riparium in my 57gal, and I'm scratching my head about how to get the substrate look I want while having some aquasoil in there as a planting medium too. My goal is to have something that looks like a light-colored pebble-y river bottom that shades from some coarser st...
