Jim, from what I've read and heard, purigen is simply an organic water column polisher, so it doesn't remove inorganics like ammonia and other nitrogen compounds. I believe the bleach "recharge" wouldn't work if it were an ion exchange type thing that absorbs inorganics.

You pretty much have to load up your tank with assassin snails. It's the only solution that worked for me. I used to have a horrible pondsnail, MTS, and ramshorn problem and now the ramshorns and pondsnails have been completely wiped out and there are just a few rogue MTS roaming around
