vertical planters

I want to do an indoors green wall. I had planned to start this project for a while now and I thought to go poking for GWAPA's vast knowledge and experience before getting lost in the wild wide web. As far as I remember Kris had something similar for his garden. I am thinking to make it as thin as p...

Re: Eugen - did you see this!

The only thing left to be invented is how to wirelessly fill/empty in the tanks to avoid that pesky plumbing issue and we are all set !

Re: Eugen - did you see this!

Both the arduino or the RaspberryPI will output analog voltages on the analog output pins, but it might be in the lower ranges (0-3V), and you will need some extra circuitry to convert to 0-10v. Should be easily doable ( and it will be the the same for the arduino as for the RaspberryPI). If you jus...

Re: Eugen - did you see this!

Yes thank you, I have been following RaspberryPi for almost a year now . It is the perfect controller for many automation projects. The closest one that is currently available is the BeagleBone board ( but it is about 90$). I should be getting a RaspberryPI board sometimes soon through some Nokia-QT...

Re: Auto Water changes

I use the same kind of contraption. Works great, the siphon never broke in more than a year of usage. The only problem is you have to live with PVC pipes in your tank along with the filter pipes. I do not see how you would combine it with the filter... Julie was trying to avoid drilling another hole...

chris_todd wrote:Julie, won't the eheim break siphon when the water drops to the level of the intake? If it will, wouldn't that make this whole process a PITA if you have to re-prime the eheim every time?

Re: Auto Water changes

If you can put the reservoir higher than the tank your design will work, and you will not need a pump in the reservoir (let gravity do the work for you). Otherwise , you do not need a solenoid valve from the reservoir to the tank. The wire from the ControlBox will have to trigger an electrical relay...

Marry Christmas all and all the best wishes !
It has been a busy year for me and I feel I missed most meetings this year. I feel I need a resolution for the next year not to miss that many .

See you all next year !

Re: It's official--2011 is "The Year of Dutch"

Holy Dutch ... my life went along peacefully while completely forgetting about the contest. I relied on the notifications by email which stopped coming since the upgrade ( yes, I saw the note that they will stop working, went and resubscribed ... clearly not careful enough) Thank you for the deadlin...
