I will definitely keep in touch. I used fairly thick layers on it and dabbed with my fingers when I applied the concrete. This both helped to push it in all the cracks and layers in the foam (that I made on purpose) and added an uneven texture. I was worried if the texture was too flat it would look...

Thank you very much for checking it out. I did my masters research around where Apistogramma baenschi was discovered, though unfortunately my focus wasn't around the fish. If it wasn't for me leaving in a few days I'd have the tank stocked. A good friend from the Aquarium of the Americas is watching...

Planted Glass Boxes: hardscape only and planted aquaria

I started a blog a few weeks back to detail some of the projects I have done and am working on. The most recent edition features two aquaria, one a South American inspired Apistogramma aquarium and the other the planted 'high tech' aquarium I posted some photos of here some time ago. I thought they ...

Thanks for the comments. The driftwood is one big piece, straight from the Mississippi. My one regret is that I sort of built this tank around that piece of wood, not vice-versa, but I'm hoping I can pull it off. As for the space between the rocks, I've got a bit of extra moss ready, but which rocks...

60cm Mr. Aqua tank

This is my first attempt at an aquascape, many thanks to a few generous donations (and some purchases), I was able to get this going. It's only been planted a few days, and I'm not 100% satisfied at all yet. I am enjoying the process quite a bit though and eager to play with it more. There's some DI...

I was just at ADG on Thursday and finally got the see a bunch of ADA tanks and I was really impressed with them. The prices for the bare tanks are really not bad at all either and the workmanship is outstanding. Personally, I don't like the bottom frame on the Oceanic either. Another size ADA I saw ...

Hi Jim, Thanks for the tips and the link. It's amazing that these lights are evidently nearly identical to the Tek lights and just a fraction of the price. I'm still worried about them being a bit too bright for the tank and causing issues-- would you recommend a model like this: http://www.growsmar...

Lighting and CO2 regulator recommendations

Greetings, I've got a 17.4 gallon Mr. Aqua that I'm in the process of setting up. I'm new to the C02 realm, but I was wondering if anyone had any hot tips of places to cheap, yet quality regulators. I'm also on the fence between T5 HO lighting and compact fluorescent. I've been using CF with some te...

Living in the South now the temperatures are more amenable to just doing it all outside (which you guys can do soon), but indoors it's very possible. I feed the yeast slurry (just enough to cloud the water) every day or two. I also put a light on over the tanks (doing more than one gives a buffer is...

I've been culturing Moina for a few years now. They're similar in culture to Daphnia but much smaller and they can reach densities much higher without crashing. Here I can raise them outside all the time (though in the winter they die back) but when the temperatures warm back up they're in full bloo...
